We came home from Italy this week to find our son Cassius, who just turned 15, with a shaved head. Turns out in his first week of high school he volunteered to shave his head for a cancer fundraiser.

Sara+Luca's wedding on Saturday was the stuff of fairy tales - especially for a photographer. How could we miss with a plan like this: A beautiful, expressive couple passionately in love. A gorgeous historic church with an early ceremony. Supportive, lovely family and friends abundant with cute kids. A 1964 cherry red Fiat sports car. The city and area of Bologna replete with magnificent architecture and landscape. A drive into the countryside to a Tuscan-style villa for a late lunch, dancing to a lively quartet and wine and grappa and fine scotch on the terrace. Cheryl and I were treated like royalty by everyone and Italy will forever be known as the country that forced me to be happy with being fat. Arrivederci. Ti Penso Sempre.

Pardon me as I begin at the beginning. We began in Bologna, Italy photographing the Bertacchi brothers playing basketball with their father Massimo who has always worked as a basketball coach. Both Luca and Paulo cut their teeth around the court are great players and Luca wanted to give these photographs as a special wedding gift to his brother and father. This is something I would love to do more of - active sessions with family, friends playing together. Timeless.

Just boarding our plane home today to Vancouver. It has been a story book time here in Italy. Luca + Sara's wedding was magic. From the family time we spent with them in the days leading up to Saturday right through to the wedding night at the Tuscan-style villa it could not have been more perfect. Cheryl and I have been in Bologna now for a few days. Limited internet for us, which is probably a good thing. We have been hanging out with Luca+Sara as they prepare for Saturday's wedding by riding horses, eating pasta and gelato, and trying to predict the weather. Today C and I spent the day wandering around the crazy, wonderful world of Venice. Stay tuned...

Cheryl and I have a busy, fun fall schedule beginning today. Saturday and Sunday we are in Vancouver at the Vancouver Cultural Wedding Show at the Convention Centre. We haven't participated in many shows but we're excited to meet a lot of potential clients and like-minded vendors here. We have always tried to photograph as many cultural events as possible and Vancouver is one of the most diverse cities on the planet. Then on Monday we are off to Bologna, Italy to photograph our dear friends Luca+Sara. Luca and I worked together on the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay. He is an architect in Bologna and a very good photographer. Always a pleasure to work with other photographers/artists and this will be a dream shooting a wedding in the heart of Italian cuisine and archictecture. Cheryl is working her super 8 magic here, and then we'll be home a bit before we are both off to the Bahamas and back into Italy - Florence - in a few weeks filming in spectacular places. Mara and Chris were married at our favourite little hotel in Puerto Vallarta [Playa Fiesta] earlier this year. They hired us and wanted it all - full coverage of the welcoming party, the wedding day and a separate session at a later date + our love booth at the reception and a Super 8 film by Cheryl.
