And The World Smiles With You

Recognition For Mr. Firouz
My good friend and fellow photographer Kari Medig [karimedigphoto.com] continues to kick ass. Last week his brilliant photograph of Mr. Firouz, a Himilayan ski guide, won best portrait up at Whistler in the 2010 Telus Ski and Snowboard Festival
Kari works with me on weddings when he's not deep in a snow cave in Patagonia or fat boarding powder on some far-off slope. And like Steve Simon [stevesimonphoto.com], Kari is a world-class editorial photographer. I am so lucky to work with such amazing shooters. Part of our philosophy here is to think of second shooters as more than just another angle covered. Moreso, we see it as bringing in a completely unique perspective. Top editorial photographers bring a lovely, surprising vision and in telling the many-layered stories of a wedding that vision is key in avoiding the obvious, the cliche and the mundane. Kari and I will be working together this weekend in Vancouver on Alex + Michelle's wedding where we hope to once again explore this curiosity and creativity.
je t'aime au revoir New Orleans
Louisiana Romance
Meredith + Ted's New Orleans wedding Saturday was one of the most romantic I've ever seen. Sure, these two are madly in love with each other. However, Ted sent Meredith a letter just before the ceremony that was a copy of the letter his great grandfather gave to Pearl - his wife to be - in Virginia in 1908. It was the last of a series of letters he wrote in courting her and the beginning of a series he would continue to write in expressing his love. Here's an excerpt: "The aim ... to gain the love and hand of the noblest woman on earth. The second series shall be to hold this love and confidence so gained and to make each hour happier for this grand personage who shall play the leading role in the drama of my life...
Pearl, I know it is one of the impossibilities of the world for me to fully express my love for you."
Here are a few pictures from Saturday including a few from our ever-popular Love Booth.
New Orleans Detail
Meredith+Ted's Saturday wedding was a lovely affair with the ceremony at St. George's Episcopal and the reception at the Elm's Mansion in the Garden District. New Orleans weddings are all about the details and the ooooooo la la. The fabulous Valerie Gernhauser of getpolishedevents.biz is the planner and the incomparable Steve Simon at stevesimonphoto.com second shot for me. Here is a look at some details. Of course, more to follow.

Oil And Water
Goodbye NYC Hello NOLA
Leaving NYC for New Orleans tonight after a fabulous few days. Mostly just wandered the city until my legs gave out. Spent a few different late nights at the Breslin in the Ace Hotel. What a bar. Great food, perfect cocktails, excellent staff. Go there now! Also a big shout out to Lord & Taylor which hosted a book signing for the Path Of The Northern Lights book from the 2010 Games. Here are a few random polaroids. Checking into NOLA tonight.
New York Love Affair
Perhaps it's because I live in an old house on farmland with no street lights and nary a car alarm, but I love big cities. Flew into Chicago last night then here to NYC. Wish I was in Chicago for tonight's Canucks/Blackhawks game but here in New York not a bad trade off. Just a few quick polaroids for now.
