With Glowing Hearts
Tuesday, 08 June 2010 20:22

It's been a year since I began working with the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Committee on its commemorative book project. In the end there are three books to show for all the hard work. The last one hit store shelves today. It is a hard cover 400-page tome with the entire story of the Games beginning to end. My work is featured throughout, but many of the best sports photographers in the world are in here as well. The incredible team I was a part of reinvented the genre for all three books and now every Olympic Games to follow will look at these pieces as the benchmark. So so proud to have been a small part of that team and for this historic time for Canada. There were many naysayers along the way, and the monetary costs will be substantial for years to come. However, overall, it was worth it and Canadians should walk a little taller in the world knowing we hosted one hell of a party. If you're interested all three books can be found at a really good price on amazon.ca as well as most other booksellers. The books are called Osiyam, A Path of Northern Lights, and With Glowing Hearts.

Bailing Out

It's been raining pretty much every day for a week now in Vancouver. Nice for the farmers. I'm heading to Mexico tomorrow for the rest of the week with Sharon+Rick from Austin, Texas. Stay tuned. These are some quick polaroids as I head to the airport tonight. And one of Aubrey and his dad Jonathon Sutton in the mix from a session the other day. More on that to come.

Recognition For Mr. Firouz
Saturday, 15 May 2010 20:57

My good friend and fellow photographer Kari Medig [karimedigphoto.com] continues to kick ass. Last week his brilliant photograph of Mr. Firouz, a Himilayan ski guide, won best portrait up at Whistler in the 2010 Telus Ski and Snowboard Festival

Kari works with me on weddings when he's not deep in a snow cave in Patagonia or fat boarding powder on some far-off slope. And like Steve Simon [stevesimonphoto.com], Kari is a world-class editorial photographer. I am so lucky to work with such amazing shooters. Part of our philosophy here is to think of second shooters as more than just another angle covered. Moreso, we see it as bringing in a completely unique perspective. Top editorial photographers bring a lovely, surprising vision and in telling the many-layered stories of a wedding that vision is key in avoiding the obvious, the cliche and the mundane. Kari and I will be working together this weekend in Vancouver on Alex + Michelle's wedding where we hope to once again explore this curiosity and creativity.
